The promise
Like a wedding band, it symbolizes the Earth, in its entirety. It unites Man and Nature in an unbreakable bond.
Today the Rodaro winery’s love for Nature is manifest and expressed at the edge of the nearby Bosco Romagno wood, where we have planted a small copse of 100 white hornbeam trees, close enough to one day embrace each other. Planting on 23 March 2024, allowed us to also celebrate the Rodaro winery’s 178th anniversary in operation.

Rodaro vineyards and wines have been SQNPI certified for a numbers of years, which is an independent environmental sustainability mark focused on the reduced use of pesticides in the vineyard.
The territory
Here, among the hills of Friuli Colli Orientali, in the north-east of Italy, along the border with Slovenia, the Rodaro estate’s 68 hectares of vineyards tell a tale of the sensitivity of those who tend them.
Skirt the Bosco Romagno wood, these vine-scaped terraces along with those of the Rocca Bernarda hillside grow between 130 and 180 meters above sea level. Here our vines enjoy optimal exposure and thrive on land dedicated to viticulture dating back to ancient times. These are the hills that unite the wine-growing areas of Friuli Colli Orientali and Collio. The soil has a rare and precious balance consisting of ponca, a flysch-like sedimentary rock, with its layers of marl (a calcareous clay rich in nutrients) alternating with well-draining layers of sandstone (calcified sand). Here the hills are caressed by winds that reduce hillside humidity from the earliest hours of each day. Whether it’s the dry, fresh air from the Balkans or the warm sea breezes arriving from the Adriatic, it is the wind that ensures healthy grape maturity during the harvesting season. Naturally fluctuating day and nighttime temperatures lead to the development of enhanced aromas in the grapes which later we find in the wines.
